Believe and Achieve

Fairtrade

We are a Fair Achiever School

The Fairtrade Schools Award is a campaign that gives primary and secondary school students the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of global issues and the fact that fair trade is the solution for so many farmers and producers. The award aims to teach students how they can be involved in changing the world around them, encouraging them and empowering them to make a difference.

Here at Hill View Infant School Academy we hold Fairtrade Coffee Mornings/Afternoon Teas every term, invite guest speakers to discuss Fairtrade issues in assemblies, continue our learning in the classroom and purchase Fairtrade products to sell on at school.

Thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at our next event. For dates please use our website calendar or click upcoming events at the top of the page.

Our termly Fairtrade coffee mornings are always a roaring success!

FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 2023

THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Fairtrade Coffee Morning and a big WELL DONE to our year 1 children for singing on stage to entertain the audience! We raised over £200 allowing us to make a £100 donation to the DEC Earthquake Crisis Appeal and purchase more Fairtrade products for future events.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2022

During Fairtrade Fortnight 2022 we discussed the ethos behind Fairtrade and the importance that farmers around the world are paid a fair amount of money for their goods. Our children took part in many activities including discussions, written work, creative artwork, singing, drumming and proudly wearing Fairtrade stickers!

This year’s theme is climate change and whilst watching video clips of cocoa farmers, children tucked into Fairtrade Maltesers and washed them down with Fairtrade hot cocoa!

Reception children created some lovely Fairtrade logos, found out about the journey of a Fairtrade banana, tasted a variety of bananas from around the world and used Fairtrade bananas to make banana bread.

Y1 children discussed the process of making chocolate, from growing cocoa plants to grounding the cocoa powder and mixing it with milk and sugar before it is ready to eat. The children worked very hard to create some beautiful work about Fairtrade products in their books!

Y2 children also enjoyed learning about cocoa; particularly the task of tasting different Fairtrade chocolates to see which they preferred! They also enjoyed using the chocolate to make some yummy Fairtrade treats for Easter!

Class 6 chose to base their assembly around the theme of Fairtrade and entertained their families with lots of facts and some catchy songs. The children wore Fairtrade T-shirts and served the audience with Fairtrade refreshments.

In music lessons the children enjoyed singing some African songs and playing the djembe drums, we also learned the catchy songs ‘Can You See The Fairtrade Logo?’ & ‘What Does The Farmer Grow?’ https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5CfbP4H30ucVH9_NzpXrxo39Jmwug9GJ

The whole school held an appeal event to raise money and collect essential items to help the refuges of Ukraine. We served Fairtrade refreshments to those who dropped by and our choir provided entertainment by singing on stage. Thank you to everyone for your generosity in supporting these very worthy causes.

Well done and thank you to all the children, staff and families at Hill View Infant School Academy, for making such a fantastic effort during Fairtrade Fortnight 2022!
